  • Coming Home: Dedicating the Handwritten Bible

Please join us as we install Phillip's handwritten bible in its permanent home on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at St. Peter's Presbyterian Church. This brief dedication will be part of the worship service that begins at 10am and ends around 11:15am. Tea on the Green follows the service.

Don't worry if you can't come! You're always welcome to stop by the church anytime to see and read from any of the volumes. (How cool is that?!)

    A little background information:

From early on, Phillip wanted the finished volumes of the handwritten bible to live at St. Peter's.

After he wrote the last word he spent the next year binding each of the eight volumes by hand. At the same time, we poured over all the photos I've taken, picking the "right" ones to put on the covers. But after he died I struggled to make the final decisions without my beloved collaborator.

Memories of his short and sweet phone calls nudged me into action just like they used to do when he was alive, when he would remind me to that imperfection has just as much value as perfection.

At this service you'll see all eight volumes, each with one photo from the project inset into the cover. Eventually, they'll be housed in the sanctuary where you can read from them any time and during particular services a volume will be brought up to the front and read from.

A book of photos from our project will be available someday and I'll be sure to let you know about it.

** Special thanks and lots of love to Morgan, Drew, Doris Jean, Shirley, Randy, Culpeck and Clark (for their patience, work on the bookbindings, and putting the photos on the covers), Jeff Brouws (for printing the photos), and John Cox. **

  • The Last Word: A Public Writing of the Last Words of the Hand Written Bible scheduled for 5/11/13

Phillip will write the last words of the hand written bible on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 6pm at St. Peter's Presbyterian Church in Spencertown, New York.

Before the writing there will be a brief program featuring a discussion about the project, our collaboration, music, and a question and answer session. A gallery of photos from the project will also be on display.

A reception will follow with a small pop-up shop selling a selection of photos, hand written bible verses, and other special items.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend. A suggested donation of $15 will benefit the Friends of St. Peter's Presbyterian Church and the completion of the binding of the finished volumes of the handwritten bible.

  • Finishing soon (and preparing to party!)

Phillip anticipates finishing handwriting the bible by early May. We are tentatively planning a "Final Words" event for the early evening of Saturday, May 11, 2013. We'll certainly share more details as we devise them! For now, please keep in mind a trip to Columbia County to celebrate with us and to be there as the final words are written.
